A Tribute to our founder
President Mr. G B Pant.

(1 st July 1930--20 th June 2020)

Mr.Pant was born & brought up in Bhimtal. His ancestral property had lot of land around the house and had been developed as orchards and gardens. His passion for gardenening developed as a child itself .He used to get home and run off to tend to the plants. So intense was his interest that he told his father that he would like to look after the gardens and the orchards rather than study further. His father however insisted that he pursue higher studies as he was a very good student who consistent scholarship holder.

Even after he started his professional career, his love for gardening continued.Luckily as an officer in the Electricity deptt.saw him being posted in places where the houses had big gardens attached to them. At one such posting in ghaziabad where the garden was not big enough for his liking,he got stands manufactured so that a greater number of pots could be placed.

Mr.Pant believed that the only way to tend to one' s plants was to buy them as saplings and then establish them as plants. That was the path to learn gardenening and about each plant. He never encouraged purchasing full grown plants to set up one' s garden because it was against his belief.

He was meticulous in planning the layout of his garden or any other project he was involved with like the Shaheed Smarak park. Everything was sketched and laid out on a grid so that no error would happen in the execution in the landscaping.

One very interesting trait of Mr.Pant was that if he took a fancy to a particular type of plant,he would not rest till he acquired all varities of that particular plant,be it roses,Adeniums or hibiscuses. Till the very end of his illustrious life his junoon or passion for gardening and plants never waned.
