Gardening Calender September

SEPTEMBER GARDENING TASKS (North India)

1. Annuals -   Mid September is the right time to sow seeds of winter annuals. Procure seeds from a reliable source. F1 (Hybrid) seeds though expensive are worth the money spent. Not only that the quality of the bloom is significantly better also the flowers are uniform.

2. Chrysanthemum - Chrysanthemum plants will need constant training. Bavistin and Monochrotophos may be sprayed to protect plants from fungal diseases and insect attacks respectively.

3. Dahlia – Now it’s time to now is the best time to start dahlia tubers off.. Will separately post how to start off dahlia tubers.

4. Rose - Around mid-September water should be withheld to prepare the rose plants for pruning in the next month. Also preparation and planning of new rose plants can be started now.

5. Vegetables – Carrot, peas, Radish, Spinach seeds can be shown now. Cabbage, Cauliflower, Lettuce and Tomato seedlings can be sow this month also.

6. Potted Plants -  Keep the shade loving potted plants away from direct sunlight. Pinch the multi-branched plants to give them compact shape. Replace the top two-inch soil with well rotten Farm Yard Manure and water thoroughly. Repot, if the plant has outgrown the existing.

7. Lawns - Apply 1/2kg of urea per 1000sq. ft where the grass growth is not found to be satisfactory or else all you need to do is regular mowing.
