Gardening Calender March

Gardening Calender March

1. Annuals: Winter annuals will be in full bloom during this month. There is nothing much to do except watering and weeding. Second half of this month is the best time for sowing the seeds of summer annuals like Cosmos (Orange), Gaillardia, Gomphrena, Kochia, Zinnia.

2. Bulbs: Almost all the varieties finish their flowering by the end of this month. Select plants for getting cuttings in the next season and cut them.

3. Chrysanthemums: By now the flowers would start fading and new suckers would be sprouting. Those of you, who want to propagate your own plants in the coming season, should label the plants. This is also the right time to remove the suckers from the pots and beds and replay.

4. Dahlias- Bloom period is just commencing. Nothing much to do. Relax and enjoy.

5. Rose – Bloom period, relax and enjoy. The faded flowers should also be removed simultaneously.

6. Vegetables – Bittergourd, Bottlegourd, Tinda, Cucumber, Frenchbeans, Okra and Watermelon seedlings can be sow this month.

7. Permanent Plants: Most of these plants would be in the process of struggling to come out of tremendous stress due to extreme winters. Prune all the weak and the dead branches, taking care that the pruning is done just above the node. This will encourage fresh growth.

8. Lawns: This is the period when the grasses come out of their dormancy and commence fresh growth. Remove all the weeds, loosen the soil and water the lawn thoroughly. While the soil is still moist, apply Bone Meal and Neem Cake @ of 100 and 200 grams per sq meter.

Happy Gardening!!
